Don't get us Brits started on this subject - you Guys are SO LUCKY - do not even think about complaining about the price of fuel/gas

We are excited here at the moment because the oil companies, bless them, have condescended to reduce the exorbitant cost of fuel to about 4.50 GBP - you do not need to be a mathematician to work out who is being ripped off

Not only do we have massive fuel costs, the weather here is cold, wet, windy - basically cr4p for the next 5/6 months.

Nevertheless, we keep smiling

Angel,

Blame the government - they put the massive taxes on your fuel.

I've often wondered why the same thing (fuel) costs so much more in the UK than it does in the US. Is it the government ripping you off or is there something about the UK law that allows oil companies to do it to you?

Even in the US, and in these days of record oil company profits, the government STILL makes many times the money off each gallon of gasoline as the oil companies do. Even so, our politicians still have the cheek to whine about "big oil!"

Trust us, we do. Apparently 70% of the cost is 'tax'. Motorists, as always, are easy targets.

From a personal point of view it does not really affect me as I drive so few miles but for someone like Pirate it is a HUGE drain on his finances and that of thousands of others who NEED their car for work.

I know - WE SHOULD ALL BUY A TOYOTA PRIUS

Something like this:

As you can see, not a huge amount of difference in crude price or operator margin. Just a huge difference in tax.
